Went out on a recee for a drama I’m DoP’ing yesterday. It was pretty interesting, if maybe a bit on the windy side.
But we took a 550D - don’t worry it belonged to the director - out and about for looking at composition and we had four macro filters (10x, 4x, 2x, 1x). Stuck those on and man, for £8 they may go down as the bargain of forever.

WatchThis is far and away the best tilt shift video I’ve seen online. The combination of unsettling audio, mixed with these big, brash visuals is unsettling and beautiful in one.

thoughts on lenses.
Just woke up this morning with a couple thoughts on lens choice for the travel journal idea. Was originally thinking of using a few different lenses (20MM, 35MM, 50MM and 85MM) but now I’ve had the thought that as the idea if the journey itself is to be first person maybe I should just stick with a 50MM (or 35MM if I’m shooting on a 7D). Currently without a title but it’s going to be an experimental piece presented either as a travel journal - taking a lot of inspiration from Tal Rosner - looking at a persons journey on a plane.
